Tip #9 – Preparing for the New Member of Your Team

The devil is in the details – the details of your onboarding program that is.

Andy’s first day at Runway magazine in The Devil Wears Prada is not the way to welcome a new employee.

Bringing your new marketing, creative and interactive member up to speed is a crucial first step in developing their confidence and solidifying your relationship with them.

  • Welcome your new employee – Have them meet your team and other key colleagues with whom they’ll interact.  A great way to start the day is a welcome breakfast/coffee or a catered lunch.  Not only will it welcome your new employee, but your team will love the goodies as well!
  • Workspace – This should go without saying, but have everything your new hire will need ready to go in their workspace including software licenses, phone, email, etc.
  • Assign a team member to help out – It’s a great way for a new employee to bond with a team member and put them at ease.
  • Give them the low down – Go over any current projects, processes, clients, and other key information that they may need to do their job.  Also, be clear about what is expected of your employees on a daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly basis.
